Is cannabis legal? How much can I possess/purchase?

Yes! Maine legalized adult use cannabis for individuals over 21 years of age in 2016.

In Maine, you may possess 2.5 ounces of cannabis on your person, or up to 5 grams of concentrate. You may purchase up to 2.5 ounces of cannabis product or 5 grams of concentrate per day.

Even if you are from out of state, as long as you are 21+ and can provide a valid ID at checkout, you can shop at Stage.

What is THC? Is cannabis safe to use?

THC has been used for its medical and recreational benefits for ages. THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, is the chemical responsible for most of cannabis’s psychological effects. THC binds with cannabinoid receptors in the brain and, unlike CBD, THC gets you high. THC can alter your sense of pleasure, coordination and time perception. Some of the benefits of THC include pain relief, easing anxiety and counteracting insomnia.

Cannabis has not been analyzed or approved for use by the FDA. There is limited information on the side effects of cannabis and there may be health risks associated with using or consuming cannabis and cannabis products.

Consumption

Inhalation and ingestion are the main forms of cannabis consumption. Inhaling through a bowl, bubbler, bong, blunt or joint will typically give you the effects of THC in under two minutes. When ingesting THC (through eating gummies or other edibles, for example), the psychoactive effects usually take longer to kick in—anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes.

With edibles, a THC high typically peaks between 2-4 hours after ingestion, although many factors, including your weight, metabolism and tolerance to cannabis can alter your experience.

Responsible Use and Storage

Being high affects your ability to perform most activities. Don’t drive, care for children or operate machinery while under the influence of cannabis. Keep your cannabis away from pets and children.

Sunlight, moisture and oxygen can degrade the THC in your cannabis. Store in an airtight container away from sunlight.
